Vintage: in or out

Have you ever seen a picture of you grandparents from when they were young and wondered “what where they thinking” when you looked at what they were wearing? Well, as you might have seen, fashion changes from season to season. After a long period of time, old fashion trends well forgotten over the years, become the new fashion must-have just by changing few details and adding more futuristic ideas.

I personally think that the way we live is a big influence for the way we dress. Many teenagers dress according to their music preference, trying to express a part of their personality. By the way people dress you can tell how much they care about their appearance, what they like and how that person feels in their own skin.

Back when our grandparents were young, they didn’t have much diversity or many choices in clothing. They all dressed similar, all trying to stick to the trends popular back then. Their dressing code was more formal. The girls would wear long skirts and blouses, all in plain colors, nothing extravagant. Nowadays, teen girls wear short skirts and pants with low-cut tops, trying desperately to show all at once. This trend started after people were given a so called “liberty” in democracy, where everybody started dressing as they wished. People started taking advantage of the liberty that the new dress-code allowed. In a few years, fashion went from long dark simple skirts to short tight and neon colored ones.

You should never throw away your used and in this time being “out of fashion” clothes, because you never know when fashion comes back. In the last ten years, a new trend called Vintage Fashion started spreading all over Europe. This is basically buying or using old clothes that your parents or grandparents wore when they were younger. If you happen to go to one of these shops, you’ll find expensive clothes. You shouldn’t worry. All you have to do is open your grandparents’ closet and start searching. You will be amazed at how many “cool” and “in trend” clothes you’ll find all for free.

Fashion changes from season to season, from designer to designer. I think that the most important thing is to wear whatever you desire and not to be influenced by a brand’s name and buy designer clothes like other fools. Whenever you think that the clothes you are wearing are old-fashioned just put them in the back of the closet and take them out when the trend kicks back in. You never know when it might come back or when your grandchildren might ask for them.
