There are four basic question formats in the TOEFL iBT Reading section. Familiarizing yourself with these formats and becoming skilled at how to answer them will help you navigate more quickly on the day of the test. 1 Multiple choice with one correct answer This question type consists of a question and four answer choices. They include basic comprehension questions, choosing a synonym for a highlighted word in the passage, and choosing the correct paraphrasing for a sentence highlighted in the passage. These items appear as follows: 2 Insert a sentence This question type consists of a sentence and four places marked in the text. You are asked to choose where the sentence best fits into the passage. These items appear as follows: 3 Summary This question type contains six answer choices. You are asked to select three of the choices and drop your three choices next to bullets. This question type is worth more than one point. These items appear as follows: 4 Category chart This question type consists of five to seven answer choices and two categories into which you are asked to drag and drop the choices.
