Raffles's town plan

When Singapore became a British Free Port, many people went to live there. These immigrants hoped to find work in Singapore (1) ________ to make a new life. Lots of new shops and houses were built (2) ________ they were not very organized. Stamford Raffles returned to Singapore in 1822 (3) ________ he realized that the city needed to be organized. He decided to make a town plan (4) ________ he divided the city into different areas, one for each group of people. The Europeans lived in the European Town (5) ________ it was here he built the world-famous Raffles Hotel. The Singaporean Indians lived in Kampong Chulia (6) ________ the Singaporean Malays had an area called Kampong Glam. This was the area along the north bank of the Singapore River. The Arctic

The Arctic is the area around the North Pole. When you look at a map, it appears to be a country (1) ________ there isn't any land! lt is just frozen water with a little soil on top.
